Game type - RPG Role-Playing-Game

Navigation - A standard 3th person view, in the game player can travel by foot and a few variety of transportation like train, floating garden and also on a jet in the later part of the game.

Characters - There is 6 main characters in the game, each with own special abilities. They are Squall, Rinoa, Quistis, Zell, Selphie and Irvine.There is additional characters like Edea, Laguna and Ward Zabac which are playable for a short period in the game.

Battle mode - Like its previous release FF VII, FF VIII is also turn based together with time bar. . During battle, there will be three characters at one time,Player can swap characters during battle. Player can steal items , draw magic from the enemies.

Summoning GF - In FF VIII, the number of GF that players can summon have greatly increased to 20, far more then FFVII. GF now play a bigger role in the game, they each have their own ability that will boost up characters' fighting ability.

Magic - In this game, playing need to draw magic, ya "draw magic", from enemies or draw points. Players can store the magic drawn and use it when need. This is quite a new kind of system compare to the older RPG games which are using MP for magic.

Side Quest - There is a few side quests to enchant the game play experience. There is the traditional Chocobo quest. And an another totally new card game called "Triple Triad" which players can win cards in the game and convert them to useful items. this Triple Triad provided a light relief to the storyline, allowed the player to interact with minor characters in a different way.

Cinematic - In FF VIII, a surprising amount of cinematic is shown through out the game compare to the older release.
